Scott Ferson

Scott Ferson founded Liberty Square Group in 1999 and has grown it into one of the most prominent public relations firms in New England.  For over thirty years, businesses, non-profits and candidates for public office have benefited from his sharp instincts and insightful assessments of how they can achieve their goals by effectively communicating to targeted audiences.  As a public relations strategist, he has successfully navigated clients through high-profile issues such as when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was being rebuffed in siting its Boston Temple and when the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe was struggling to gain federal recognition. He has provided strategic counsel to government, higher education, union, nonprofit, and corporate clients.

A former press secretary and Massachusetts Issues Director for the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, he has played key roles in electing U.S. Representatives Seth Moulton and Stephen Lynch as well as Tim Murray to the office of Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.

In 2013 he founded The Blue Lab, a political incubator for Democratic candidates running for office at the local, state and federal level.  The lab was cited by the Boston Globe as “the next big thing,” and has helped dozens of candidates run for office, often for the first time, while training the next generation of political leadership.  Over 250 college students from over 45 colleges and universities are Blue Lab alumni.  Moulton, Lynch, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, State Senators Will Brownsberger, Eileen Donoghue and Cindy Friedman have won with the Blue Lab’s help.

With this success, he was given the first Distinguished Alumni award from his alma mater, the UMass/Dartmouth Political Science Department.  He also holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University.  He teaches political communication and government as an adjunct professor at Stonehill College and Suffolk University. Mr. Ferson is also a recognized strategist quoted extensively in New England print and broadcast media, and his analysis is regularly sought out by national media, including Politico and Roll Call.
