John 'Jack' Yunits, Jr., Esq.
Jack Yunits, Director of Municipal Partnerships at the Liberty Square Group, brings more than 10 years of public sector experience as Mayor of the City of Brockton, and more than 30 years of private sector experience as an attorney and mediator assisting clients in the strategic analysis of their policy initiatives and legislative or business goals. He is a graduate of Boston College High School, Boston College, New England School of Law, and holds an honorary doctorate from Stonehill College.
As Mayor of the City of Brockton from 1996 to 2006, Jack Yunits revitalized the city through business retention and growth, investments, real estate development, educational innovation, crime fighting, and job training for youth and adults. During his tenure, Brockton experienced an unprecedented turnaround that has attracted national attention. He was the longest serving Mayor in Brockton's history.
Mayor Yunits lead the escalation of Brockton's bond ratings from nearly junk bond status to A-2 and still rising when he left office. While Mayor, three new schools were built, as well as Campanelli Stadium (home of the Brockton Rox), a transportation center, which has stimulated more than $40 million in new condominium construction, and the Shaw's Center Function Hall. He led the fight to cap a 40-acre leaching landfill at no cost to taxpayers and returned brownfields to municipal and commercial use.
Jack Yunits served as Chair of the Workforce Development Committee, U.S. Conference of Mayors; Chair-Massachusetts Clean Water Council; Comm. of Mass. Brownfields Advisory Committee (Appointed by Senate President Thomas Birmingham); Urban Advisor to Attorney General Thomas Reilly; President, Massachusetts Mayors Assoc.; Chairman, Brockton School Committee; Chairman, Brockton Area Transit; Board of Directors, Brockton 21st Century Corp.; President, Brockton Boys & Girls Club; member of Mass. and Ply. County Bar Associations, Metro South Chamber of Commerce, Sons of Italy, and the Old Colony YMCA.
He lives in Brockton, MA, with his wife Lees Breckinridge Dunn. They have four children.
